Does my outfit really affect my images?
This is perhaps the most asked question when a client is booking a session behind "What if my kids don't behave?"...
So lets dive in and unpack perhaps one of the most influential parts of your session, because yes in short what you wear will affect the overall style of your images. Now I don't mean you have to wear designer clothes that cost lots of money that's not at all what we are talking about, what I mean is the colour of your clothes, style that fits the environment & most importantly are you comfortable in those clothes? The clothes themselves could be bought from Kmart, Cotton On or Target as lets face I'm not going to know & neither are the friends & family you will show these images too.
So if your having a session up in the field, forest or even the beach colours that match the environment, help to really style those images into gorgeous & natural looking images that compliment the surroundings, so think warm earthy natural tones beiges, whites (avoid blue & stark whites), creams, tan, khaki, olive, mustard, burnt orange, dusty pink & pastel greens. Avoid dark colours or black as they tend to darken an image & change the whole feel of what is a natural warm surrounding into a dark & cold surrounding, so if your after those beautiful soft warm images you see in my grid on Instagram or my posts on Facebook stick with those warm natural tones & we are on our way!
Most importantly on the day you must be comfortable in what you are wearing or it can show in the images, if you are like me and feel uncomfortable in a strapless dress then I don't suggest wearing one as you will spend the whole shoot worried about the dress & not able to jump into the adventure & have fun!
Textured clothing is also a great option to bring another layer of interest into the images so knitted jumpers or lace can give a really cool affect!
Avoid too many patterns, perhaps put one of the family members in a pattern & the rest in plain outfits to pop the pattern & not have anything clashing. Stay away from large logos on clothing as they tend to distract the eye from what's happening in the image.
I am always available to have a chat about outfits or feel free to send me photos of the outfits you are thinking of wearing & I can give helpful tips about what I think would work or not, these are just tips & tricks by all means wear what you feel you want to wear!
